To be forgiven, forgive others

Of late I have been pondering how one might seek forgiveness for one’s trespasses against others when the other is no longer available to forgive the one seeking to be forgiven, for whatever the reason.  Coming from an unexpected source, my question may have been answered.  Maybe by forgiving the trespasses of others against us, we might be given forgiven for our own unrepented acts against others.  Such would be in keeping with the “do unto others” maxim as well. [1]  All this is to say: To be forgiven for one’s own sins, maybe one should forgive the sins of others.
